Not my usual thing, this is a first attempt at studio shooting. A friend is starting a preseved flower business and needs some photos to get started. My backdrops consisted of some fabric purchased at the local store, my dining table, and a PVC frame and welding clips to hold them up. :) Any comments/critique welcome.

This is NOT what I said in my post. I mentioned "Dependent Relationship". Dependent Visa applies in most cases, though. Example - Your wife could be on F1 or other visa and that is not dependent visa.
Contrary to popular myth, it is ok to file I-485 on F1 visa status.

Correct. It is advisable to file I-485 as soon as your PD is current. However, section 245(k) covers for 180 calendar days. In some cases, she may have more time, but those cases are linked to visa status and usually don't apply to H4 status holders.

Please send emails to CBS 60 Minutes and other media sources. Send them personalized emails explaining backlog issues and efforts from IV. Considering passage of SKIL Bill in lame duck session a remote possibility, this would be a step in right direction. Also it would bring IV in media focus.

The only missing thing I see is that I-485 has also been pending for > 180 days.. If thats true.. you are good to go... 140 > 180 days has not much significance... only approved 140 is important... Good luck...

Probably 1929 depression and current times are not similar. So BTW were those 400K maxicans holding any type of Visa ? Currently as far I know all the 65K H1b Patitions were approved, I do not know for what reason ? If situation was that bad may be only 10,000 k could have been approved and limit could be dropped to 15k for say a period of next 5 years. I am pretty sure that is not going to happen. The Anti H1 wave was probably started by Nobel Laureate Obama when he pointed to Bangalore and then Lou Dobbs and then Senator Grassley and so on. Now if you look at job boards it is clearly mentioned by many job postings "Please no H1Bs".

If she is here on H4 and while she was here her H1B got approved then there is no problem. As H1B is not VISA and its intent to hire. Infact if she wanted to to Join work on H1B, she will need to apply status change application for H4 to H1B.

Hi,
I am sorry to side track the topic here but I am a permanent resident of Canada and lived there for 3 years. It's beyond my words to explain how difficult it is to get a job in Canada. First of all IT jobs are less except in Toronto and Ottawa and some in Vancouver. Sometimes they don't hesitate to trash our resume in front of us which happened to me. They hate US experience. I asked when I was called for an interview why don't they believe US experience when I had worked in US. She said, "Oh well! in US, in a team of 10 software engineers only 2 or 3 are good and rest of below average but whereas in Canada it is reverse". I was appalled with the response. Anyways, I am not advocating that we shouldn't take shelter in neighbouring countries like Canada but trying to put forward the ground realities existing in Canada.

I also told that lot of people like me will be opting Canada or Australia or even go back to India if the EB Immigration issues are not fixed. If US doesn't fix its Immigration Policies for Skilled Immigrants then they go back to their home countries or other contries who know their worth. This is our most productive age and we won't waste it.

I called my Civil Surgeon yesterday and asked her if she was willing to fill out a new I-693 form because it has been changed. Well, she was willing to fill out but said the old data (May 2008) is not valid, precisely TB test/Blood work/Physical exam. I thought it was ridiculous because all she had to do was validate her own results from the last exam. She was open for validating any vaccination records but not her own tests that she conducted.
I really don't want to spend $200/person again for the tests which she has already conducted. Anyways. I guess I'll have to pay her and get the new forms signed.
Is anyone in the same situation?

I'm due for my H1 visa extn as it is going to expire in Apr-2010 and my employer is going to do it anytime soon. I have heard that these days USICS is extending the H1 based on the project end date mentioned on Purchase Order, if that is the case then
[1] does it mean that we can get extn only for 6 months or so instead of 3 yrs [if your I-140 is approved]?
[2] And after six months do we again have to file for extn and pay all the fees again ?
Any help on this issue is highly appreciated.

hey Waiting Game,
the consulate in mumbai is in a very expensive area called 'breach candy' its like the beverly hills in CA.
however, u may get decent stay outside 'Dadar' or 'bombay central' railway station. these are close to the consulate but since u have a morning hour commute towards downtown mumbai, it will take at least 30-45 minutes. so give urself adequate time. avoid 'bandra', churchgate, grant road areas.
if u just need to spend the nite, u can spend it on the airport.
let know if any questions and wish u all the best.

I think you can volunteer while on H4. But, I would not recommend working "off the book" - it is illegal and can screw your GC process big time.
Some charity organization ask for the social security number even for volunteering. But, I am sure there are many who will let you work without it.
